How Hunger Strikes All, Essay Example

Essay

I was walking home one time and took the same old route I take every afternoon. An alley always becomes a part of my daily scenery. It was an alley were Allen, a five year old child and his sister Annie stays in to pass the night by. Although I felt sorry for them, I usually turn by the corner and simply hope that they would be helped by someone. I tried so many times to go and help them apart from giving them alms, but I could not seem to bring myself up to the task. I knew their names because I gave them some money one time, but I know it would not be enough to get them through the day. In my head, I was muttering ‘at least I tried to help unlike the others who just pass them by’…. as if I felt that I was trying to be the good Samaritan in Christ’s illustration.

However, I heard of the Three Square Organization. I felt like a hypocrite. I knew I did give those children some alms just so to respond to my personal guilt. My desire of helping them was not strong enough. Learning about Three Square Organization allowed me to see beyond what was obvious. It was not important how much help you could give, what is important is the value of the assistance that you provide those who are in need. Relatively, I was motivated to do more. I decided to present the names of Allan and Annie to a local community organization that provides occasional food supplies to homeless people. I also made contact on a family who seem nice enough to give comfort to these children. I wish I could have done the taking care of those kids on my own, but my resources simply do not allow me to do so. Hence, resorting to finding others who could help out seemingly provided the response for such need. No, I was not able to give all that I wanted, but at least, I know I stretched all the resources I have to be able to give out what I can. And this time, there was no hypocrisy in it, I felt good and felt fulfilled that those two children would at least have a family, some food to sustain them with and perhaps a better future that could put them at a better status in life as they grow older.
