I’m Gonna Like Me, Essay Example

Essay

The book I selected for this assignment is I’m Gonna Like Me by Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell. It appears that this book will motivate young children into developing a sense of self-esteem, which is necessary because children tend to question their selves in relation to the rest of the world at this age. This book will help them understand that no matter who they are and what they think others think of them, that liking themselves is what matters the most. It demonstrates that if you like you, others will like you as well.

After reading the book as a class, it would be important for students to gain an understanding of what they would need to do to feel better about themselves. Therefore, they will be given a worksheet and asked to state how they will improve themselves and to draw a picture that explains their words. At the end of this independent activity, students will be asked to share their answers and talk about them in a class discussion. At this point, students will be asked to reflect upon this activity in their journals and state what they learned from the story and listening to their classmates.

At the end of the activity, the student worksheets will be posted in the classroom to show the students a reminder of what they are working towards in order to make sure that they are able to love themselves and their friends. They will be reminded to look at these assignments when they feel upset or unconfident and this will help them feel better about themselves.
