Implementation of ‘Parental Participation Scheme’, Dissertation – Abstract Example

Pages: 1

Words: 325

Dissertation - Abstract

Among the United Nations’ millennium goals is the promotion of primary education with the aim of achieving global literacy by the year 2015. While governments around the world have focused on the provision of free primary education as part of the efforts to end illiteracy, parental involvement has received little attention with regards to the role that parents play in their children’s education. In light of the findings of previous studies, there is ample evidence to suggest that parents play a positive role in enhancing a child’s cognitive development. This is especially the case during late childhood and adolescence years (age 7-16), when parental influence on child development is most critical, even more important than family socioeconomic status. The proposed research study will explore the educational benefits of parental involvement in child education through the Parental Participation Scheme, with particular emphasis on the child’s cognitive development. It will seek to find out the relationship between parental involvement and the development of a child’s cognitive and computational skills during early childhood education.

The proposed study will be based on primary data collected in an early childhood education setting, a bilingual kindergarten where the researcher teaches. Data collection will involve getting feedbacks from parents, students and teachers on the educational benefits of involving parents in out-of classroom educational activities such visiting museums, teacher-parents collaboration, and accompanying children to libraries.

The study will be divided into five chapters, namely introduction, literature review, research methodology, presentation and discussion of research findings, and lastly, drawing of conclusions on the basis of the findings, as well as identifying the study’s limitations. The research findings and conclusions will form the basis of establishing the extent to which the Parental Participation Scheme encourages positive parental contribution to student learning. In addition, the findings will give insights on the effectiveness of existing structures in providing guidelines for parental participation. Finally, the study will explore potential areas for future studies to help make the scheme more effective.
