Dissertation - Abstract

This study pertaining to Job Satisfaction among Medical Oncologist was undertaken from the basis of a problem identified within the industry. It was discovered that job satisfaction of oncologists has declined over the past several years (Almenarez, Camps, Esteban, Moreno, Escobar & Sanchez, 2009). As such, the purpose of this research is to investigate and understand medical oncologist’s job satisfaction in Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. It is expected that this research project will contribute to the body of knowledge regarding job satisfaction for oncologists by explaining and addressing factors affecting medical oncologist’s job satisfaction. This would be achieved by adopting the theoretical framework encompassing Herzberg’s Motivation-Hygiene Theory and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Therefore, the researcher has embraced six questions in evaluating the irregularity among medical Oncologist and issues of job satisfaction. Importantly, they relate to how Medicare re-reimbursements affect well being on the job; the way oncologists perceive the Physician Payment Sunshine Act ; related factors, which impact full enjoyment of work; legislations which may be necessary to improve job satisfaction; exploring the relationship between job satisfaction and patient care and interpreting differences of practicing medicine among states in the United States of America. Subsequently, the research design will entail a qualitative case study, which will engage 15 oncologists in questioning and observation for a period of 3-5 weeks. This would be conducted while they are functioning on the clinical rotation. The sampling method would be done though random selection. Descriptive analysis utilizing simple statistics including percentile ranges, mean and median calculations, will be undertaken in displaying and interpreting data retrieved from this case study survey.
