In What Ways Do Society and Crime Interact, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 244

Essay

There is sound evidence that crime is an inseparable part of society. There is no example of a society in history, which has never dealt with problems of murder, theft, and other examples of crime. Consequently, there is some sort of an everlasting connection or bond between them.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a society is “an enduring and cooperating social group whose members have developed organized patterns of relationships through interaction with one another” (Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, 2009). In other words, a society is an agreement that was reached between people, in order for peace and stability to prevail. In the same dictionary we are able to find a definition for crime, which is identified as “an act or the commission of an act that is forbidden or the omission of a duty that is commanded by a public law and that makes the offender liable to punishment by that law” (Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, 2009). Therefore, it is society that actually defines and originates crime. One could say that crime is an inevitable outcome of the set organized patterns, as far as the relationships in the society are built by the majority, while the minority does not necessarily support the choice of the majority.

The interaction of crime and society is vivid and unquestionable. It is a connection that cannot be altered and will always be present.
