Abstract

This work in writing examines an issue in Los Angeles, California and produced a press release on this subject matter after having reviewed the FBI top ten press releases for the present period of reporting on the FBI website located at: http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/topten_123110.

Press Release

The 2011 Spring opening day in a Dodger Stadium parking lot witnessed the attack on Bryan Stow, a fan of San Francisco Giants. This attack resulted in Stow’s hospitalization with requirements that he be placed in a coma that was medically induced. The injuries inflicted on Stow during the attack resulted in a fluid build-up on Stowe’s brain causing a seizure and requiring two surgeries. This attack has resulted in beefed up security measures at the Dodger’s stadium, which includes a zero-tolerance policy enforced by uniformed LAPD officers throughout the entire stadium including the entrance tunnels, parking areas and Elysian Park. Officers are enforcing the no-tailgating policies of the park and are ensuring that fans have not been drinking prior to entering the park for the games. The attack on Stow is not the first violent incident taking place in a Dodger Stadium however, this attack has ensured that security measures will be tight throughout the Dodger Stadium and adjoining areas. During 2003, a fan was killed after being shot in a Dodger Stadium parking lot and in 2005 during a promotion, which reduced ticket prices to $2 and in 2009, at the Dodger’s home opener, a man 30 years of age was stabbed following the game in a Dodger’s Stadium parking lot. Tightened security measures resulted in 132 arrests at Dodger Stadium during the 2010 opening day game. The tightened security measures should address concerns of fans about their safety while attending Dodger games. This is critical as many individuals returned their season tickets after the attack on Stow due to concerns about their own safety while attending the games. While Stow is recovering from the attack and a suspect captured, the potential for such future type incidents is at focus and the efforts of the LAPD have been concentrated on eliminating the possibilities of any such future incidents at Dodger’s Stadium.
