Intelligence, Personal Statement Example

Words: 404

Personal Statement

Navy’s long term success is tied to the leadership capabilities of its members. I have always believed leadership qualities are not inherited by acquired. In addition, leadership is a never-ending learning process because it involves understanding others and influencing them in a positive manner. I want to pursue a career path that takes advantage of my skills and strengths and is also a good fit to my values which is why I aim to be a Naval Officer. My leadership qualities are evident from the fact that just after a year of service, I was put in charge of an entire watch team in the Mediterranean. This was due to my leadership, communication, and team work skills and my ability to arrive at creative solutions to complex problems. In addition, I also have strong language skills and am fluent in both English and French.

I am attracted to Special Duty (Intelligence) because I would be able to put my skills to tackle the most challenging and complex global security threats facing the nation. It will not only help me understand the true capabilities of the Navy but would also expand my thinking horizon due to greater knowledge of global affairs and cultures. This is why I also hope to get college education because knowledge helps you separate fact from fictions and become aware of your personal biases and stereotypes that get in the way of objective thinking. I hope to leave everlasting impression on everyone I come across through my actions and leave a better society for the future generations.

When I think about Navy’s Core Values (honor, courage, and commitment), I realize that people don’t join Navy because they want a career but because they put high priority on love for country, bravery, and pride in serving the country. Navy is more than just a career choice; it is a way of life and one cannot succeed as a Navy Officer unless he/she knows the true spirit of Navy as an organization.

I have proven my professionalism in every professional role I have served in over the years and now I desire to test my potential as a Navy Officer. I want to figure out what I am capable of and how much I can contribute towards Navy’s mission as well as the security of the nation. I look forward to becoming an effective Navy Officer as well as a valuable member of the intelligence community.
