The EHR technology solution will cut back on patient care time and allow them to focus on treating the patient instead of having to repeat their history information. The advantages are “Improved diagnosis and treatment and significantly fewer errors found within personal health records” (Advantages, 2014). The EHR software program allows patients to enter their own information and it is transferable to all medical professionals quickly and easily. “A recent study of emergency rooms by the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University found that the total length of stay for patients was 22% shorter at hospitals with “fully functional” EHR solutions than those” (Making, 2015). The UMUC Family Clinic will not need to update the major hardware extensively, the software will work with their existing systems. The biggest factor is to add new computers in the lobby which allow patients to enter their information. The communication components are unlimited to any medical professional that utilizes the EHR technology and needs access to the patient information.
