Jainism, Article Review Example

Jainism follows many of the same teachings and philosophies as Hinduism especially regarding the non-violent practice of ahimsa.  Although this lifestyle can be very difficult to follow and maintain, it has been proven that Jains are not alone in their principles of nonviolence and peace.  For instance, vegans and vegetarians all around the world practice similar beliefs and change their entire eating habits to avoid eating anything that comes from an animal.  Jains also practice this belief.  Given that individuals outside of the Jain religion can practice similar nonviolent beliefs, it is easily proven that Jains and all other people can practice and maintain this lifestyle.  These individuals will always be tempted by others and by outside sources to sway from this lifestyle, but anyone at any time can follow this lifestyle with enough confidence and commitment.  It is not necessarily a question of whether someone can do this, but rather a question of if the person’s individual beliefs and willpower are strong enough to withstand temptations.  Only a small minority of people can maintain their willpower and strength through difficult times.  This lifestyle is clearly not for everyone, but it is definitely possible to practice and maintain.
