Prop 8 is about the amendment of the Constitution in California to oppose same sex marriages. This is a report that shows the effects that spewed out of the proposition. Marriage Equality in the United States gives stories to highlight the effects of the amendment that opposed same sex marriages. The report shows the impact of amendment on the people in California. For example, lesbians, gays, transgender, intersex, and bisexuals and other straight allies continue to experience stress. At the same time, these people experience verbal abuse and other forms of physical harm and discrimination that emanates from the Prop 8 campaign (Marriage Equality USA 3).

In addition, the report indicates that the amendment has also scared the children of the same sex couples (Marriage Equality USA 4). This amendment also led to increased bullying in schools of the children of the affected couples. It caused homophobia amongst straight allies (Marriage Equality USA 6). At the same time, the amendment had led to creating divisions in families and tearing them apart when they voted in opposing sides (Marriage Equality USA 7). At the same time, this has destroyed neighborhoods that were once close. These are the reasons as to why the organization wants the Supreme Court in California to overturn the amendment. In my opinion, the organization has a good claim and it is essential that the Supreme Court amends Prop 8. This is the only way through which the people can exercise tolerance.

The work of Gerstel and Sardinian also gives various arguments about the role of a family’s social economic class and its influence on family relationships. These views by the authors also highlight on the general ideas on family and the structure. It also explains that if there is a different family structure, it does not mean that it is a weak family structure (Gerstel and Sarkisian 448). In addition, the authors explain the role of class, race, extended family involvement, and gender influences family ties among the diverse Americans. In my opinion, the authors have demonstrated that social class plays a large role in the forming family structures.
