Rubertone is an associate professor in the department of anthropology, Brown University. She holds a PhD in Anthropology and this makes her an authority in this field of study.

In this article, Rubertone gives attention to the history of Native Americans during and after European contact (430). The research is grounded on the relationship in the early debates regarding the field’s subject matter and concurrent discussion about direct acculturation and historical models. This article is going to be useful for this research as it points out the complexities of identity construction in America after the European contact. It is therefore applicable in highlighting issues related to justice in the 19^th century.

Ward Churchill is a Professor of American Indian Studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and author of numerous books, and a leading member of AIM. The author has achieved unparalleled reputation as an activist scholar and analyst of indigenous issues.

In his book, Churchill takes a critical analysis of 11 essays how the US has consistently constructed a corrupt form of legalism as a way of establishing empire and control. He presents how the law has been used to subvert the Native Americans by tracing the federal Indian law (Churchill 241). The information presented in this book is applicable in research paper to assess how law has been used to promote injustice among the Native Americans and bring in economic inequality between Native Americans and European Americans.

Thorton, Rosalind. American Indian Holocaust and Survival: A Population History since 1492: Civilization of the American Indian. University of Oklahoma Press, 1990.

The author is a Professor of sociology in the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. The book presents a demographic overview of North American Indian history by providing the details of the holocaust, which even today, white Americans tend to dismiss as an unfortunate concomitant of manifest destiny. The book describes how the invasion by European Americans of North America led to sharp decline in number or rather the entire tribes. Thorton describes how the holocaust contributed to diseases, genocide and warfare, relocation and removal, and massive destruction to aboriginal ways of life (213). The demographic information from the book is informative in providing statistical data and economic perspectives. It also sheds light into injustices and genocides, which is the class course.

Legters, L.H. “The American genocide.” Policy Studies Journal. 16.4 (1988): 13-23.

Lyman H. Legters is a senior fellow of the William O. Douglas Institute and professor emeritus, School of International Studies at the University of Washington, and has a wide publication on genocide and related issues.

The book aims to establish an explicit connection between the American genocide and the ongoing discussion on the subject that has preceded the discussion on the subject following the wake of Holocaust of World War II and the United Nations Conventions adoption on genocide (Legters 15).

The information from the article will give direction on providing effort to place the relationship between the Indian-white relationship and asses the public policies.

Leo, De Diego. Struggling Against Suicide. The Journal of Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention 23.1 (2002): 23-31.

Diego De Leo is a professor at Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention QLD, Australia. The article presents a trans-cultural comparison in order to understand the phenomena of suicide and coming up with preventive strategies. This is undertaken through an integrative approach to issues such as gender, socio-economic factors, ethnicity, race, and religion.

This article is going to be useful for this research as it points out the factors that would be beneficial in understanding of suicide phenomena and coming up with preventive strategies. Leo’s article works well in defining suicide in an integrative approach, which calls for coordinated and concrete, multidisciplinary approaches to prevention of suicide (24).

Yee, David. Myopic Perceptions and Textbooks: Chinese Americans’ Search for Identity. Journal of Social Issues (1973):29: 99–113.

The author is a professor at California State University, Long Beach. In this article, Yee analyses how Americans have perpetuated inaccurate attitudes and images concerning the Chinese that propose the functioning of socio-psychological anomalies and prevent the growth of healthy human relations (Yee 102). The article is going to be useful for this research as it points out narrow stereotype perceptions of and prejudice to Native Americans as far as meaningful identity is concerned. The study works well in defining justice in the context of cultural genocide and presents how the role of native populations is affected when a shift is perception takes place.

Russell, Stephen. Seeking justice: critical perspective of native people: The invisibility of American Indians in racial policy discourse. The Georgetown Public Policy Review. 4 Geo. Public Pol’y Rev. 129. (1999).

This article focuses on social problems faced by Native Americans resulting from racial policy discourses. The author points out the emergence of two separate societies and the apparent inequality. This article provides valuable information is assessing the injustices resulting from apparent invisibility of American Indians in racial policy issues (Russell 325). The article gives an insight into lack of involvement of the Native Americans in developing racial policies, which is mainly driven by Black Americans.

Staub, Ervin. Genocide and Mass Killing: Origins, Prevention, Healing and Reconciliation. Political Psychology, 21 (2000): 367–382.

Ervin Staub is a professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and has published several articles on political psychology. The article focuses on a wide collection of violence especially genocide and mass killing. The author presents the origin of the concept through introduction of new concepts and comparison with other approaches (Staub 270). The information from this article provides a basis from viewing genocide from a contemporary perspective drawing on experiences and approaches. This gives a clear picture for introducing the research question.
