Language and Cognitive Development, Article Writing Example

Article Writing

Language is something that begins in the early stages of a child’s development. Every child gets to learn a language that is spoken within the environment he/she is born. Pronunciations of words in babies begin when the baby starts producing sounds while crying (Cruttenden, 1979). The phonology a child adopts, is that of the environment he/she lives. Therefore, Cruttenden asserts that the environment affects not only the language that a child adopts but also the manner of pronunciation.

Children exhibit cognitive behaviors at early stage. It is evident that children tend to repeat interesting effects in the surrounding world and imitate familiar behaviors (Berk, 2011). The  child can be seen searching for a hidden object indicating a baby understands capacity. Berk talks about symbolic understanding where words and gestures can be used to tell a child of something that is not physically present. The child gets to know what is meant when one points at where it is usually placed or when its name is mentioned. Language and congenital infant development contribute to the level of literature a child gets, thus, the beginning of a child’s learning process.

The basis of early childhood development revolves around the above factors that improve on the intelligence of a child. Children who are suspected to develop autism are offered language and behavioral therapy to improve on their communication skills. Parents and caregivers have a duty to ensure that the words spoken to their young ones are pronounced with the right diction. A child tends to pronounce words the same way they are uttered. If the words are not pronounced correctly, the child may adopt wrong pronunciation, and it will be difficult for him/her to change.
