“You teach yourselves the law; I train your minds”, were the infamous quotes of Professor Kingfield of the famous Harvard Law Showtime Series Contract Law class. Many other quotes of importance were, “You come in here with minds of mush and I help you to leave here thinking like lawyers” (Kingfield). What exactly did this Professor mean by these infamous statements? A great lawyer is one that possesses great intellect, the ability to analyze case law and the ability to work well with others. I have the ability to transcend myself and my mission to become a great lawyer into a higher purpose other than to become just a person of higher riches and material possessions. My vision is to give equal justice for all and the way to achieve this is to provide legal services on a sliding scale for those who cannot afford legal services. I desire to make the community in which I live a safer and better place to live in. These are the ideas I consider when I consider what distinguishes a good lawyer from a great lawyer. A great lawyer is willing to go that extra mile to help others fight for their rights to ensure equal justice is available for all as seen in Burns v. Ohio, 360 U. S. 252. Pp. 365 U. S. 708-714.
I overcame many difficult English barriers whilst migrating to the United States during high school. This gave me the motivation to excel in my undergraduate studies and the motivation to desire to apply at the distinguished New England and Boston Law Schools. I am a leader that possesses the internal motivation needed to excel in law studies. I understand that the first year of law school determines who will succeed in the study of law. The trials and tribulation that I have had to personally encounter such as overcoming language barriers, cultural adjustments whilst living apart from my family has proven to be an attribute and given me the direction needed to be a successful law student and lawyer. I feel this has made me added to my character and my ability to be received as a productive student, citizen and future attorney that I strive to achieve. My goals are to attend a top rated law school, preferably New England Law or Boston University Law School so that I can obtain a great internship and land a great law placement after finishing law school. These two schools are listed as one of the top rated east coast law schools and will enable me to find employment at top rated law firms after passing the bar examination.
My writing skills are excellent which are needed in order to be a successful law student and to pass the Bar Examination. These schools will teach me the Socratic Method and teach me to write superior essays in preparation for the bar examination. My personal obstacles in my life have given me the confidence and drive to complete my goal to rise to the level as a future trial or immigration attorney. These feelings were obtained through the obstacles encountered and conquered whilst living and adjusting in the United States.
I do not consider failure as an option and that has always helped me to keep an optimistic viewpoint with any challenge I undertake in life. I am very excited to commence my career in law. I look forward to attending either New England or Boston Law School. My main goal is to study according to the Socratic Method and to place objectives on learning the law and placing much emphasis on learning the applicable case law.
I have not decided what type of law I would like to study but human rights law and immigration law sounds very interesting to me with regards to protecting the civil liberties of all Americans and properly seeing that any infringements of such are brought before Judicial Review. Our United States Constitution is built upon the grounds that all are to be treated equally before the law and I intend to ensure that will occur.
With Regards,
