Lynch Law in America, Article Review Example

The logic behind Well’s document is to expose an uncivilized way of condemning humans when there were no counts to try people justly. The article pointed out  clearly thatthere was an “unwritten law” about which so much is said, and in whose behest butchery is made a pastime and national savagery condoned’ ( Wells, paragraph, 3). Hence, the American value of a fair justice system with a just trial consisting of jury was Wells argument that was  advanced in the article.

Events pertaining to the Founding fathers’ fight for American independence whereby Native Americans were brutalized then sentenced without a fair trial with Lynch lawmaking all the decisions created acceptance for this law according to Wells, for the white supreme society. Then thosewere the days of the civil rights movement whereby emancipated slaves were not considered humans just like the Native Americans. Again this type of Lynch law was acceptable in those days by the white supreme rulers (Wells, paragraph 2).

Beyond the lynchings themselves and the other points Wells makes; Wells mentions the lynching first started to invoke justice about 40 years ago even in a subtle way during the founding fathers’ struggle for freedom with native Americas. It became the unwritten law unto post  emancipation struggle with blacks, but after its usefulness was proven lynching was used as an excuse to brutalized anyone who might be an enemy to the ruling class or  minority. Racial lynching was not seen a problem because blacks were not supposed to be considered people. Besides ,these events occurred during segregation along with the impact of the civil rights Black were not expected to be equal to whites and therefore ought to know their place with it came to the law of that time activity.
