Re: Mr. R. Davies – Breach of Business Ethics and Code of Conduct

I would like to bring to your attention the problems associated with alcohol consumption during working hours, particularly during lunch times periods. We are a manufacturing company with workers using complex and dangerous machines. Mr. Davies cut himself on a Milling Machine whilst being under the influence of drink. This is not only in violation of the company ethics and code of conduct, however in addition also may invalidate our insurance policies. It represents not only a personal danger to Mr. Davies but also other members of the workforce.

Our business code of Ethics [Part 2 Conduct at Work, Page 18 par 3 refers] ‘No person shall participate in consuming alcohol during the course of work hours.’ This is established not only from a Personal Code of Conduct but also is a legal requirement in context with our Health and Safety of Work provisions. The Company takes such breaches very seriously as it .endangers both the individual and workers in the firm.

The Management respectfully bringing this matter to your attention in the hopes that you will seriously re-enforce these provisions to Mr. Davies and make him aware of the gravity of this situation, particularly in the light of his injury. We have a zero tolerance policy on this issue and any future incidents may result in dismissal from the firm. We expect future full compliance from Mr. Davies in terms of respecting the Company Ethics and Code of Conduct and working within the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
