Introduction
The ability to develop and implement a viable solution to a problem requires an effective approach using existing knowledge and expertise to achieve the desired results. Throughout nursing practice, problem solving is a critical necessity to ensure that any issues that arise are managed properly and effectively at all times. The contributions that nurses make to problem solving also demonstrate their commitment to recognize problems and to develop effective solutions. Problem solving abilities must develop during education and in all areas of nursing practice so that problems are identified and properly addressed as they arise. For specific projects, nurses must recognize their role in addressing these problems and in supporting a series of steps that will have a positive impact on nursing practice and on patient care as a whole.
Analysis
Developing and maintaining a solution to a specific problem in nursing practice requires an effective understanding of the problem itself and the possible solutions that are available (Rigney and Baernholdt, 2013). From this perspective, education plays an important role in identifying the root of specific problems and in examining these problems with a critical eye so that all possible solutions are explored within the desired timeframe (Rigney and Baernholdt, 2013). Nurses who possess the appropriate level of education are more likely to recognize the value of discussion and communication regarding problems and their potential solutions (Rigney and Baernholdt, 2013). The utilization of clinical nursing principles will provide important contributions in strategy and knowledge to ensure that solutions are reasonable and also cost effective for possible implementation (Rigney and Baernholdt, 2013).
When a project solution is established, it is important to identify the key indicators that the solution might require an extended period of time to achieve. This is relevant because not all problems possess the same scope and timeframe. Therefore, unforeseen delays and other challenges must be accounted for through effective project planning. Nurses require continuing education in their efforts to provide excellent patient care and solve problems of critical importance. For the latter, it is important to request extensions if projects are delayed and the work cannot be completed in the proposed timeframe. The chosen course of action must consider the steps required to complete the task at hand, as well as other problems or concerns that may arise in the process. Extending a project to complete the required tasks is not uncommon in nursing practice, as the responsibilities of direct nursing care often outweigh other projects, thereby necessitating time extensions to complete these tasks.
When the solution to a problem has not been successful, it is important to consider other feasible alternatives to address the problem in question. Nurses must utilize existing examples and develop new scenarios that will be useful in solving the problem without significant delays. If the chosen solution has not been successful in solving the problem, existing knowledge and examples should be considered as a guide in supporting a new set of principles and steps to solve the problem from a different perspective (Niemer et.al, 2010). These contributions are relevant because they convey the importance of specific factors and key principles in guiding the team towards a new type of solution (Niemer et.al, 2010). When a problem remains unsolved due to poor planning and an unsuccessful solution, there are critical challenges to address as quickly as possible to reduce waste and to improve cost efficiency, in spite of the problem in question (Niemer et.al, 2010). Nurses must exercise their vast knowledge and understanding of nursing practice in order to accomplish these objectives without additional costs or significant delays that could further disintegrate the problem and it
In the case where a nursing-related problem is large and it impacts patient care and nursing practice as a whole, it is necessary to look beyond the scope of the project and to address its challenges in a larger and more open setting. These circumstances will not only assist in allowing the problem to be solved and the project to be completed, but also for nurses to recognize their decision-making capabilities and apply them to any given scenario. When the problem is solved, it may be highly beneficial to provide the scope of the project, the actions taken, and the measureable outcomes. Some of these outcomes may be applicable to other problems across different settings. In either case, the type of communication that is conducted to provide input and feedback may be very useful in explaining the problem, the steps that were taken, the solutions that were derived, and the role of this information in impacting future problem-solving efforts.
Conclusion
The identification of problems in the nursing practice setting requires an effective understanding of the challenges of nursing care and treatment and how these limitations impact patient care and wellbeing. As a result, when nursing-related problems are identified, solutions must be developed as soon as possible so that nursing practice is not further compromised by these concerns. The issues surrounding problem-solving in nursing practice are significant; therefore, experienced nurses with advanced training play an essential role in directing these efforts and in supporting favorable outcomes for nurses and their patients. In nursing environments, problems arise on a consistent basis; therefore nurses must recognize potential solutions, test those solutions, and determine if additional efforts are required in a different manner to solve the problem in the most cost efficient manner possible on a consistent basis to achieve effective results.
