Miami University Transfer, Personal Statement Example

Since my childhood, I have been inquisitive and a critical thinker which explains why I enjoy learning about new things and read on a variety of subject matters including business, history, politics, cultures, science, and technology. I also enjoy meeting people, especially those from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds because it helps me expand my thinking horizon and become better aware of personal biases and stereotypes. I religiously follow news on current and global affairs and the events of the last decade have convinced me our politicians have failed to rise up to the challenge of leading the greatest nation on the earth. Our political leadership has put personal interests ahead of national interests and allows its personal beliefs and ideology to shape the country’s domestic and foreign policies. This is why I decided to major in politics and later added communication because a politician should be an honest and effective communicator.

I want to transfer to University of Miami because during my campus visit, I was impressed by the diverse student body as well as the learning opportunities available to the students. In addition, the university also has strong professional network which enables its students to interact as well as intern with elected officials. By interacting with students from different ethnic and national backgrounds, I will learn more about dominant ideologies in other parts of the world. The interdependence between countries has increased in modern times and for the U.S. to maintain its political leadership, our political leaders should have better global knowledge instead of assessing global affairs from only American points of view.

I hope my education and interaction with other students at Miami University will help me become an effective politician in the future who understands both domestic and foreign affairs well and educates the people through effective communication.
