In order for ModMeters to meet the required set of demands that is expected of the IT department, an IT planning process has to be established. Below is a schematic of the optimal planning process to be implemented.

  1. Determine the Current Financial Situation

Before anything can take place, it is important that ModMeters IT department determines what financial resources are currently available. This is essential in determining the scope and depth of any activities to be undertaken.

  1. Develop the Financial Goals

This is where the IT Department understands the financial goals and targets that are expected of the department. This is essential in giving direction to any undertakings.

  1. Determine the Alternative Causes of Action

This is where the IT Department outs on the table the options it has. This will include the change of the prioritization criteria employed for the existing project, the budgetary options available, the human resource options available such as retrenchment and the cutting of costs by employing a more efficient software foundation and computer language.

  1. Evaluate the Alternatives

This includes;

Consider:

  • Economic factors of each alternative
  • Impacts on business of each alternative
  • Effects on operations for each division within the department

Assessing:

  • the risks associated with each alternative
  • the time value of money (the opportunity costs) associated with each alternative
  1. Create and implement the Final Action Plan

This involves creating the procedural step-by-step guide to wards tackling all of the agreed upon and optimal plan. This will be targeted towards achieving maximum output and maximum profit for ModMeters in order to realize the New Projects.

  1. Review and Revise the Plan

This involves keeping tabs of the plan and ensuring that there is little to no deviation to the agreed upon plan. It is essential in the management of the scarce resources available.
