Essay

The most surprising thing that was evident in Chapter 3 was the challenging nature of cryptography. The implication of cryptography as highlighted in this module is protection of transmission of messages amongst parties or different computers by the use of mathematical operations. Cryptographic systems arte the packages that facilitate cryptographic protections that facilitate for wide gamut of security protections and the elements allied to cryptographic systems was one of the surprising issues in chapter 3 of the module. It was also surprising to note the stages that are associated with cryptographic systems with the first one being the negotiation of security procedures as well as the options that are applicable in a specified session of communication. It was also surprising to not that all the cryptographic system standards facilitate for multiple methods of cryptographic that are applicable in communication.

The chapter also indicates that specific ciphers in encryption are associated with high degree of complexities that make it difficult for the IT professionals to fully comprehend them. The achievement of privacy and confidentiality through encryption makes it impossible for potential thieves to understand any stored or transmitted message and this concept is not synonymous to cryptography. Equally surprising from this chapter is the requirement for negotiation for distinctive cipher suite among two parties within “Secure Socket Layer”, SSL or “Transport Layer Security”, TLS in the process of sessions of communication. The function of Secure Socket Layer” and “Transport Layer Security is provision of communication security across networks through the use of cryptographic protocols. The knowledge of reply attack was also surprising which involved capturing of a message by an attacker that was transmitted by an authorized user and the message is sent at a later date by the attacker.
