Nursing School, Application Essay Example

My interest in nursing dates back to my high school days. During which I was impressed by the work that t our resident school nurse used to do. Later I opted to assist her in taking care of my colleagues when they fell sick by simple things like serving them with food. I realized that it was so enjoyable and satisfying when one took care of other peoples needs. From the word go since then, nursing became my career of choice and my mind has never changed since then. While undertaking my nursing undergraduate studies at the former university, I was exposed to departments of pediatric nursing, geriatrics, obstetric and gynecology, med surgical nursing and emergency obstetric care. Obstetric nursing is the one which struck me most and became my area of interest. It always satisfied my mind in taking care of expectant mothers.

I did my electives in a hospital which had a stimulating staff and a research environment. While there, I was attached to the department of obstetrics and gynecology. I benefited a lot from the highly dedicated staff at the hospital and came to realize how a job well done can be rewarding. After graduating I landed a job in a Hospital, where I worked in the department of neonatology and obstetric. It was at this time that the neonatology unit was being set up hence had the exceptional opportunity to take part in the process. While here I discovered my leadership skills and interpersonal relation to others. It was at this hospital that I was elevated to a post of senior assistant head of the department.

I wish to undertake an MS degree in obstetric care and do this up to the level of PhD and carry out extensive research in the field concerning maternal mortality, infant mortality and assess quality of obstetric care in developed countries. Later I wish also to teach and learn as much as possible all that pertains to my field.

Earning a masters degree would enable me advance my career objectives and act as a bridge so that I can earn a PhD. I have had lengthy discussion with my colleagues at work, my lecturers concerning the selection of the university, hence applied to this particular one since its renown for its outstanding success in research, good learning environment and excellent masters program. As I look forward to join you, I am ready to face challenges that come along, ready to work with my colleagues and supervisors and learn all that I can. I hope you will give me the chance to achieve my goals.
