Objectified, Movie Review Example

Question 1. What three things stood out for you in the video ‘Objectified’? For each thing that stood out, please provide a reason. Be specific.

The tendency to want new things that does not last long stood out. This is due to the creation of new designs for the next now. This illustrates that individuals need change in order to survive in this competing world of fashion and design. The other aspect that stood out is people’s perception and assumptions of objects with regard to their interaction habits that is, how one touches and holds the object. Every new design depicts its function, the designer and use differently from all individuals interacting with the object. Lastly, the tendency of individuals to want an object, which suites their needs and wants in performing what the individuals want. Question 2. What ‘squared’ with you in the video; that is, what idea or concept was confirmed by seeing the video. Please provide a reason. Be specific.

The concept that squared me in the video is that of Bill Moggridge who designed a laptop with varied physical attributes. The aspect brought forth upon using the machine, is the interaction with the computer, which made him forget about the physical design and concentrate more on what is happening behind the screen. This enabled me understand the digital concept and physical design of a laptop. Question 3. What is still ‘circling’ in your mind as the result of the video; that is, what is still unresolved and not clear for you. Please provide a reason. Be specific.

Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby left me circling on the designs for debate. The aspect of having designs displayed in galleries leaves me wondering why I cannot have the design at home so I can appreciate the piece of art.
