The main point of this article is to brief the reader on the contents being focused on, mainly the refugee and/ or the asylum seeker, challenges this group of people face, mitigation to these challenges. The article mainly reflects on the health, welfare and occupational needs of this group of people and how this can solve the problem of refugeeism in the long term and how this can eventually turn out to be beneficial to countries hosting refugees and asylum seekers as opposed to the traditional view where refugees have naturally been victimized and considered to be a source of problems to host countries. It is suggested that shortage of labor in host countries can adequately be resolved in host countries by hiring refugees and asylum seekers considering that this group of people is likely to be well educated and skilled. This action can help in ameliorating the effects of trauma, torture and refugeeism besides reducing the negative impacts of refugeeism and facilitate the process of community integration in the host country. The main problem of refugees being occupational in nature, key areas of involvement focusing on this problem have been discussed to help occupational therapists to be decisive in solving this problem.
Occupational Justice
The main point of this article is to explore the effectiveness of establishing a more realistic approach to solving human problems related to health and quality of life through occupational justice approach as opposed to social justice. While social justice guarantees fair play through establishing rules to govern relationships between individuals, this does not guarantee better living standards and health for people as opposed to an occupational justice system that puts in place mechanisms that facilitate an enabling environment for meaningful and diverse occupations to enable every one lead a happy and healthy life. In principle ,this theory outline rights, responsibilities and freedoms that can be acquired through economic empowerment of the individual through meaningful occupation which has direct impact on a persons health and quality of life. Since research from the article show that individuals perceive justice in terms of health and better living standards of which the later is directly linked to occupation, it is apparent that occupational justice complements social justice. The occupational therapists have therefore a major role to play in facilitating justice through identifying creative measures of creating divergent and gainful occupations.
Reflection on doing being and becoming
The main point of this article is to expose health problems that would be experienced by an individual whose occupation is not a march of his or her competence, talent, taste etc a condition we are calling occupation dysfunction that can arise as a result of social, ecological and political cause given the understanding that health is directly linked to occupation held by an individual. Doing a job and being in the profession pertaining to that job and becoming whatever that job makes you affects health of an individual on individual level through interaction mechanism, socially through sharing tasks, technology used and globally through developments that affect ecosystems and natural resources. Diseases directly linked to occupational dysfunction such as; cerebral palsy, hand injury, schizophrenia, stroke, developmental delay etc can be prevented if steps were taken by the occupational therapist to create awareness in society of the dangers of occupational dysfunction and mitigation to this problem be evaluated and implemented to help safeguard individuals living standards and health in particular.
