According to recommendations outlined in the Affordable Care Act some new types of health care oriented technologies bringing benefits into the system include electronic health records (EHR); clinical decision support system (CDSS) and emergency department information system. Each of these technologies has their distinct challenges and benefits. Electronic health records (EHR) removes paper files from the health care environment. Initial challenges include huge startup costs with vendors exploiting physicians and health care organizations. Also, after implementing these databases immense technical difficulties ensued (Cohn, 2007).

Besides, many physicians, nurses, pharmacists and laboratory technicians among many other health care professionals have difficulties accessing data due to inadequate computer skills. Therefore, health these issues create resistance to utilizing the system and more challenges regarding costs occur since training and sensitizing older professional became mandatory. While these discrepancies have to be address providers have since applauded the implementation technologies once they are professionally installed. Many of them were able to recover these initial costs and patient outcomes have been enhanced (Kim, 2005).

Over the next five years major trends affecting health care delivery pertain to the managed care philosophy. Despite provisions of the Affordable Care Act if quality health care is not accessible to citizens in an equitable basis Americans will continue dying earlier than their fore parents irrespective of immense technological developments. Technological advancements means nothing if the ordinary citizens does not have a choice of physicians neither quality of services due to inadequate insurance or none at all. Consequently, these are trends affecting health care now, but will definitely escalate if measures are not taken to give all citizens access to quality health care irrespective of the type of insurance coverage he/she possess (Kim, 2005).
