Partner Violence and Survivor’s Chronic Health Problems, Article Review Example

Physical impacts of domestic violence on victims could be cured through physical therapy and particular medications that ease out the pains of the inflicted injuries on the victims. However, when it comes to chronic illnesses brought about by trauma on the victims, the situation becomes harder to bear. Relatively, helping them through regular therapy might not be as helpful as that of finding better ways of addressing the victim’s situation with specific progressive forms of mental realignment. In the article of Macy and her colleagues, it could be realized that handling such problems in relation to domestic violence victimization requires both time, effort and patience from the beginning up to the last phase of providing assistance to the said individuals (Macy, et al, 29). Relatively, such forms of development provide a great source of personal strength for the victims. Nevertheless, the social workers are suggested to take command, to observe and to provide ample time and assistance whenever they feel there is a necessity to do so.

Given that it is most often than not that the women become victimized through partner-violence, the study in this article intended to seek answers as to how women respond to victimization. It has been reported herein that getting the attention as well as the cooperation of women victims may not be that easy to attain (Macy, et al, 30). Hence, social workers should be able to work their way around the situation and convince the women that they are indeed in need of assistance and that the situation that they are in should not be set aside, instead should be given proper attention to by professionals who can help them with their struggles.

Overall, this particular article serves as a good source of competent information that could help in the process of defining the actual needs of the victims of domestic violence especially relating to issues of mental imbalance (Macy, et al, 31). Relatively, it could be understood that the suggestions given could be fully worked on and thus should be considered accordingly by social workers in assisting the people they hope to serve in the society.

In my personal view, I see this article to be a good source of information for social workers as they intend to find better ways to understand their clients in the community. Assisting victims of violence inflicted by their partners would indeed impose trauma, but what should be known more about this matter is how such trauma affects the mental ability of the individual they have to assist for recovery. Being able to know how to make it easier for the victims to tell how they feel and share their struggles would help social workers to find more effective approaches on dealing with what is needed by the society regarding the said issue. As strong as the article is in defining the needs and the requirements for dealing with the mental health of victims being treated and assisted, I see this written work to be a good source of competent approach on dealing with the need to establish coordination and cooperation coming from the victims.
