Personal Freedom, GCSE Coursework Example

Pages: 1

Words: 304

GCSE Coursework

One of the biggest concepts I believe that people should embrace regarding personal freedom is tolerance for everyone. Not everyone will believe the same thing, and people’s perception of the world change based on their influences in life. In order for a society to thrive and promote religious of freedom, people must be accepting, and open to not only different views, but new ideas as well. As we discussed in class, society in America should follow deductive reasoning; in which, there are no objective/universal truths. Therefore, individuals should be free to believe what they want. Further, the government has a duty to respect citizens’ freedom of belief. More importantly, I agree with the Professor’s reasoning that none of us knows what is the ultimate truth about the religious questions on which we differ, even though we each still have confidence in our different beliefs. In short; we agree that none of us knows the absolute truth, so there is no point in making any difference between us. What matters more is being able to live together. This reasoning should be a universal way of thinking, which should receive the highest support within this society. When we adhere to the reasoning that everyone’s beliefs should be respected, it would reduce the number of military conflicts major international disagreements. The alternative to this society, however, is to live in a society of totalitarian power, such as the ones Hitler, and other totalitarian figures created. These leaders  wanted to oppress others because they were different, just like in the time of the Crusades, when  many perished because they did not want to conform to the central religion. This is not something that society should go back to; instead, we should continue to progress forward and maintain a tolerant way of thinking to influence all aspects of society.
