Despite tremendous global economic progress over the last few decades, healthcare standards continue to be inadequate around the world. In addition, the healthcare profession is ill-equipped to meet the rising demand for healthcare services, even in developed countries. These realizations have played a major role in my decision to pursue a career as a physician.

As a physician, I do not only intend to focus on the provision of healthcare services but also on educating the public to take greater control of their health. This is even more important today due to a number of factors such as aging population which have helped shift focus towards preventative healthcare. Not only preventative care helps contain rising healthcare costs but it also improves the quality of life of an average citizen.

I am also attracted to the healthcare career because it will not only secure my financial future but will also enable me to make positive difference in the lives of many. I aim to improve healthcare standards among some of the least privileged members of the society because healthcare indicators are reliable predictor of a particular community’s long-term social and economic progress. The implementation of universal healthcare system in the U.S. in the form of Obamacare will bring insurance coverage to millions, mostly from low-income groups.

While dreams are important, it is important to align them with one’s interests and strengths. Science courses such as Biology have always been my strong points and in addition, I enjoy helping people as evident from numerous volunteering activities I engaged in throughout high school. Thus, I am confident of having a great future as a physician and have no doubt my work will bring comfort to countless people.
