Professional Development Goal Setting for Teachers, Article Review Example

This author began discussing professional goal setting from the perspectives of educational/ personal goals. Later, she moved intorelating district- wide goals and finally goalsetting as a separate item. This format introduces the premise that goal setting begins soon after graduation when the teacher receives his/her first license. However, goal setting ought to continue throughout the career (Brown, 2014).

Subsequently goals may change according to refinement of teaching strategies and techniques. Adjustments in curriculum over time could influence goal setting as a teacher experiences professional growth. The article highly suggested that prior to entering the profession as a listened teacher the teacher has no professional goals, but relies on a more advanced teacher to guide him/her into making such goals (Brown, 2014).

In my opinion this is not quite accurate. For example, Fitzhugh Dodson (2014) advances that many personal goals overlap into professional ones. Therefore, to say that professionals have no goal before graduation isnot quite true. The desire to graduate college as a teacher in itself is the achievement of personal goalthat was established without influence ofa more advanced person. As such, it could be considered a personal goal (Dodson, 2014).

Brown (2024) continues to contend that professional goal setting at the district level is influenced by educational goals set through a committee. Hence, the ultimate goal setting strategy from the author’s perspective encompasses alignment with district educational goals. It would then appear that the teacher/educator/s personal goals are absorbed by the district committee. The question which is still unanswered is how asks, how does an educator’s personal goals impact district goal decision makin?.In a democratic process a culmination of personal goals from professionals should design distinct educational goals(Dodson, 2014).
