Reading experience is very important for every learner as it enables students to discover and learn new ideas. By extensions reading experience is important to enable students improve their thinking capacity and become more analytical. This is achieved through acquisition of knowledge and information on different issues in the environment. As one reads, he or she is able to get the relevant information on particular issues that are important in understanding how they exist, operate and their roles. For instance a student reading on social problems in the society can easily understand the causes of social problems, their solutions and human roles in social issues.

Set within this context of reading benefits, reading experience also plays a greater role in improving the vocabulary of students. Therefore, it is through reading that students are able to learn new words, improve their spelling and thus help in language development. Students who have a good reading culture are better placed to perform in language tests than those who do not like reading. Improved spelling and vocabulary also plays another beneficial role of enhancing memory retention of students. Good reading experience enables students to remember not only the things that they have read but also related issues on the topics that I have read. For example, reading items from one subject enhances one’s memory in related subject, for instance, a student who read on settlement patterns in geography can easily relate this to related topic in history such migration and settlements.

Reading experience is also very important in improving the writing skills of a student. Students who like reading improve their spelling skills which enable them to write the learnt vocabularies with a lot of ease. This is also helps in improving learning skills and increases interest in learning. Studies show that students who are poor readers are likely to perform poorly in class due to low level of intelligence. Reading experience therefore improves one’s academic performance and also fosters smartness in various aspects of life. This is also important for reducing stress among the learners.
