Reciprocating Engine Operation, Book Review Example

Pages: 2

Words: 548

Book Review

Chapters six and seven concentrates on giving attention to the engine of the aircraft relating highly on how it operates and how it performs. In these chapters, such functions of the aircrafts based on the type of engine that they have is given specific consideration to. The placing of the cylinders and how they specifically help in the process by which the engines perform in a proper manner is properly examined and discussed within these chapters. These sections of the reading also provide a great indication on how each engine responds to air pressure and all the other points of operation that it has to content with as the aircraft takes off, as it flies and as it slows down for landing.

It is imposed through this chapter that somehow, in the process of investigating on particular aircraft accidents, the recorded notes on engine performance during the points of aircraft operation specifically provides the investigator an eye on what started the occurrence of a supposed accident. It also provides a good sense on what permeated the situation to create tragic events to follow that could actually cause the overall failure of the aircraft’s performance.

Aside from giving information on how an engine performs accordingly, it also gives an indicative point on how an engine’s performance is limited. It gives an indicative information on how these limits should be given specific attention to especially by operators and the engineers who are supposed to maintain them in a regular condition. Such points of limit include the investigation over Engine RPM, Propeller RPM, manifold pressure, cylinder head temperature and exhaust gas temperature.

Like a person, when an engine of an aircraft is overworked or when it has already reached its limit, it becomes stressed and would then gradually lose its control on how it is expected to perform as a transport vessel. Considering all these elements of engine performance, these chapters provide a great impact on the condition of engine limit and how such information could specifically point out where problems occurred before an actual aircraft tragedy happens. It is also considerable that a focus of these chapters is related to manifesting  a sense of indication on how external elements could actually contribute to the failure of engine performance. Measuring which specific external element actually caused the anomaly on the engine shall provide investigators on how they could actually make a specific indication on what elements should be controlled and how they could be contained in the future as engines are to be made more efficient ad competent in managing how they face different external pressures while on air. Investigations and other procedures leading to the determination of the primary causes of aircraft accident could be helped through specifically pointing how an engine works and how its limitations a recognized accordingly.

These chapters are very helpful in pointing out that somehow, the capacity of the engine to perform properly for an aircraft specifically depend on regular maintenance handled by the engineers as they manage to keep their aircrafts specifically integral for working. Another matter that the chapters focus on is the process by which operators and engineers should check for any engine anomalies in a regular manner so as to make sure that each vessel is competent in functioning according to what is expected.
