Research methodology

This research design was based on the qualitative design. This means that the data used in the investigation of the religious discourse in Saudi Arabia is collected from study materials. The data can therefore be numerically described and important in conducting descriptive researches. This research design enabled the process of study to not only answer all the research questions but also but takes into account other factors sources of research data and limitations of time, resources and ethical issues around the subject of investigation.

In undertaking this study, the following procedures and methods were used to ascertain the problem and objectives of this research. The research design of the study will begin by looking at the goals and objectives of this study and testing the hypothesis of this study by collection of data. In addition to the data collection, this study will look further into the various literature reviews to answer the objective of the study which is religious discourse in the Saudi Arabia after the gulf war.

The secondary research design will be followed in the collection of data. The secondary sources of data in this study will include journals, books and research on the religious discourse in Saudi Arabia and the role of government in shaping the religious dialogue in the country. some of the books that will be was reviewed include:

I. Previous research on the topic of religious discourse in Saudi Arabia

II. Relevant books and journals on the role of government in shaping the religious discourse in Saudi Arabia

III. Online publications on the history of the religious dialogue and wahhabiyya movement in Saudi Arabia.

Research questions

I. What is the history of the wahhabiyya and its contribution effects to the post Gulf war religious discourse

II. What is the role of the government in determination the determination of religious discourse

III. What is the contribution of the government opposition in the interpretation of sharia law as applied by the government?

Procedure for data collection

The process of data collection involved researching on the data collected by other scholars by looking at various books in the Saudi Arabia literature. The impact of the terrorism attack within Saudi Arabia itself and the September 11th attack on USA has made researchers to develop various interests not only in the history and society of Saudi Arabia but also the place of religion and the security challenges that come with it. The literature review that influenced this study was in two main parts, while some scholars hold the view that the country is a fertile ground for radicalism and terrorism , another school is of the opinion that Saudi Arabia is doing all it can to contain insecurity and resilient in fighting terrorism.

Questionnaires were used in the study to direct the secondary research in data collection. Questionnaires are important in the study in the sense that they enabled the respondent to answer the questions with a lot of ease and without interference. The questionnaires were distributed to three contributors to the Saudi Arabia scholarly work. The responses from the questionnaires provided the data that was analyzed to determine the role of the government in shaping the religious dialogue in the country.

Some of the limitation encountered in the study include the fact that this study is largely done using the secondary data done by different scholars with varying opinions on the Saudi religious discourse. In addition, some of the vital source was not found are done in Arabic. The researchers therefore took a lot of care to get to the credible scholarly sources.
