Statement for Admission to a Graduate School, Personal Statement Example

I am a dedicated Nursing Professional and have been working as a qualified nurse (LPN) for the last ten years. This has encompassed a wide degree of professional nursing activities, including that of: working in acute care units, Rehabilitation, Nursing homes etc. At this point in time I am studying at my local University in order to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN). My anticipated graduation date being in May 2012.

Having completed my Bachelor’s degree I hope to continue with post-graduate studies and thereby expand my studies into one or more areas of specialization. Equally, it is hoped to combine this with more practical work experience and thereby help in consolidating my work experience base from both a practical and theoretical level. As such I recognize the importance of finding the most suitable graduate school that will help me to achieve these goals. This looking at academic track record, peer reviews, research capability and library facilities.

My ultimate aim being to progress towards an Advanced Practice Nurse. The APN requires a combination of in depth nursing knowledge and expertise gained from postgraduate studies in meeting the health needs of Individuals, Groups and Families. I believe that your graduate program meets all of these criteria and will enable me to take this next important step in my career development program.

In addition to learning research methods and techniques I hope to join a graduate school where I will develop a peer network and participate in an interchange of ideas and knowledge that will help to stimulate my learning process and wider my horizons by gaining valuable insight into other nursing professional’s perspectives. I believe that I have the qualities of an excellent nursing professional and I am now ready to take the next step in my career at graduate school.
