Strategic/Tactical Goals – Proposed new building for the Academy Detachment at FT. Meade, Maryland
Strategic goals
The entire academy does not find it feasible to continue using the old building as a school. With the inadequacy of space and inconveniences associated with the old building several strategic goals set to address the issue of the proposed construction of a new building. In this case, the two approaches to setting the goals employ: the top-down approach, and the interactive approach. The top-down approach will focus on coordinating the setting of the goals, the incentives associated and the general feedback. The top management team approached and given a chance to speak their views in relation to the school’s mission, where they will determine the strategic goals. This would be the best approach as there is a guarantee that any set goals and objectives by the top management sets directly tied to the support of the proposed new building and adhere to the school’s mission statement. In this case, the decision makers who form the top management team include CSM Smith, Garrison CSM and COL Rothstein, and Garrison Commander.
Tactical goals
The strategic goals determine the tactic goals. Once the strategic goals set from the top management, they passed on to the next level who will speak out the operational goals. The individual employees pass their grievances as the faulty electrical wire, the leaking roofs, the faulty door locks, and the necessity of a sprinkler system inside the ceiling. From this point, the top management and employees will discuss any potential obstacle to attaining the set goals. The interactive approach employed where every person directly or indirectly associated with the school has a chance to speak out their grievances. The top management, employees of all ranks, and students participate in the development of goals and objectives. They all come together to discuss and determine the strategic goals. Every individual contributes in the definition of the operational goals and objectives.
Issues and concerns
The major issue of concern is the availability of funds. Inadequacy or unavailability of funds forms the greatest obstacle. However, various strategies risen to suppress the issue. The second issue is the temporary accommodation that would be necessary during the period of construction or renovation of the new building. The final issue calling for a strategy and approach is the issue of the accommodation of the extra number of students who currently do not fit into the old building to progress with their daily activities.
Strategies and tactics to address the issue of funds
To come up with a long-term solution, there will be a need for budgeting and allocation of enough funds to build a new building for the academy. To cumber the concern of funds, the project made to run for two or three years, until 2014. This would enable adequate time to source funds. However, the concern of the prolonged period gives rise to the necessity of a temporary accommodation. A short-term solution is to find another building that would accommodate students, shortly without having to spend as much money or logistical support. If at all the proposed new building never attainable, the only remaining solution would be to spend the available funds to remodel the present building, addition of some more classrooms, and working on the areas that need attention.
