Substance Abuse, Reaction Paper Example

I was really shocked to find out how easy it is to engage in substance abuse because even over-the-counter drugs have the potential to be misused. It also makes sense that the earlier one is exposed to drugs such as alcohol, the greater is the potential to develop lifelong addiction and the statistics support the hypothesis. The fact that so many teens can access alcohol before the legal age reflects both about the importance of better enforcement policies as well as the difficulty of enforcement since even normal drugs have undesirable properties.

I assumed that marijuana is safe and should have been legal instead of smoking but this presentation has vastly improved my knowledge about the adverse effects of marijuana. It seems that marijuana is actually more harmful than smoking despite the popular myth and the public should be educated more on the adverse effects of marijuana. Similarly, hookah is also considered safe by many people I know while the reality could not have been different. Even those who do not smoke may not hesitate in case of hookah because they do not consider it harmful. I was also shocked to learn how easy it is to make methamphetamine at home. I also blame the media for their role in glamorizing smoking and drugs and doing less-than-ideal job of educating the public. It is no wonder that myths about hookah and marijuana are widely prevalent.
