Brief Summary: -The article outlined from a precise literature review of documents related to the effects of parental military deployment on child well-being. They also examined the effects of this separation on parent-child relationships.  These researchers further acknowledged that several major parent-child interventions explored implemented nation-wide during the past five years. They used this data in applying assumptions supportive of filial therapy. Thus is an ‘empirically validated intervention, with military parents and children’ (Chawlaa & Solinas-Saundersb, 2011).

Purpose:- The purpose of this study is to establish a premise for the application of the filial therapeutic intervention to address  child-parent issues of arriving from deployment of American soldiers.

Methodology: – The researchers articulated two conceptual premisesin applying the literature review investigation. They are ‘effects of deployment on child outcomes’ and ‘effects of deployment on child-parent relationships.’  Consequently, research questions implicit in this literature review analysis reads, ‘what are the effects of deployment on child outcomes? What is the impact of child –parent relationships from deployment?

Analysis of data and conclusions: – Data analysis pointed towards facts leading to the conclusionthat parent deployment have serious consequences on child outcomes. These include impacts on internalizing and externalizing behaviors. Stress levels are affected and behavioral problems can emerge. Precisely, because there is a correlation between parental and child symptoms deployment has negative effects on child parent relationships. Consequently, the premise for establishing filial therapy was successfully achieved.

Filial Therapy: – The researcher advanced that filial therapeutic intervention was very appropriate in addressing this phenomenon. In my opinion while this is true further researcher involving more rigid counseling for parents and children is also beneficial because each case is different. Maybe actual case studies ought to be the evidence based practice informing this intervention, rather than an extensive review of literature.
