Research Paper

In order to meet specific goals within an organization, it is imperative to come up with an action plan in form of a strategy. Preservation of resources and long term maintenance of vital processes are achieved through the action plan called sustainability strategy (Nigel, 1998). The concept of sustainability strategy is in most cases applicable to environmental issues when addressing action plans responsible for reduction in wastage and depletion of important resources. The simplicity or complexity of a specific sustainability strategy depends on resources along with the challenges involved in designing and implementing the action plan (Nigel, 1998).

In determining what is to be sustained in an organization, the concept of sustainability management comes in to focus. Materials entering and leaving the firm forms the best basis of this evaluation. The impacts of the firm’s products and services to the natural resources also counts in determining what has to be sustained. The management has the duty of holding forums with workers to arrive at the best alternatives that can improve on refining of the processes of the firm for a better sustainability strategy (Nigel, 1998).

In addition to the environment, aspects of profits and competitiveness arise though to a less significant magnitude in sustainability strategy. The major objective behind business operations in any organization is making profits. The extent of profits made is also governed by the competitive edge that the firm holds in the market. Manufacturing of products with insignificant impact to the environment may be associated with prohibitive production costs (Nigel, 1998). It is therefore imperative that firm’s managers strike a suitable balance between the margins of profits and sustainability in order to achieve success.
