Swan Lake Park Scene Part 1, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 270

Essay

The weekly videos indicated that the specific movements of the dances relates to how identity is being addressed. There are many factors that impact movement, but the most noticeable aspect of movement addressed in the weekly videos is gender. This observation is based in part on Swan Lake Park Scene Part 1, as the dancers in this video were a mostly male cast. While their movement could be considered graceful, it didn’t appear that this grace was as emphasized or significant as it would have been if female dancers were to have played this part. Ultimately, the motions of women in most dances could be said to be more fluid than the male parts.

In the video, the dancers regularly reach above their heads, and this movement seems slightly crude compared to what would be possible if these actions were taken by women. While the dancers can still be considered graceful, it appears that their motions are less continuous than one would expect.

This knowledge of dance reveals an idea that would help me explore my own personal identity. It would be interesting for women to adopt this more crude style of dance and for men to dance more gracefully. Gender swapped clothing would be used to signify that gender identity shouldn’t matter in dance, as there are many creative aspects that contribute to the overall effectiveness of the piece.

In conclusion, identity is an important part of dance because it contributes to the final product. Individuals with two different identities can carry out a pieces in a different manner. Therefore, identity contributes to the artistry of a piece, emphasizing its overall effect.
