Introduction

In the field of progressive medicine and recovery-nursing approaches, making sure that patients [especially the aged ones] are well protected from sudden possible injuries that might happen within the premises of the hospital or the healthcare facilities where they are admitted in. The emergent manner by which nurses are supposed to pursue on determining definite courses of faster recovery for the patients is what notes the condition by which the nurses are given the proper skills, awareness and understanding on how they might be able to use available tools that could help them improve the way they competently handle their responsibilities towards the patients they are supposed to care for.

Alternative support activities have long been understood as definite source of assistance on prolonging the physical tolerance of patients in relation to medical procedures. Conditioning the mind and the body accordingly is what accounts for such strategies to be rendered as helpful and effective especially in mandating how good options of development are being introduced in the field of medicine at present. In the study undergone and presented by Leslie Day (et a), a distinct concentration on how Tai Chi, a Chinese concentration exercise, has been examined for its applicability especially in terms by which disabled older individuals are supported as they undergo a full course of health improvement.

In this presentation, a focus on how such study supports the theories behind holistic healing is to be given proper attention to. This approach is expected to create a more extensive pattern by which modern options of development are assumed to become available for use, but traditional conditions of empowering the mind and body of the patients is what is considered to be more effective. The holistic approach to curing an ailment is aimed to become a common ground of nursing practice across all the different aspects of concentration that the work in itself is focused upon. Nurses aim to be more focused and innovative on the way they handle their responsibilities towards their patients; and somehow, injecting tai chi exercises into the picture seems to be a feasible condition or option that patients and nurses could take into account in order to support the need of improving the point of recovery that the patients are supposed to undergo.

About the Article

The article is basically focused on the exploration of what is considered as a determined pattern of new and more effective form of health recovery among older patients. One common issue among older patients is the occurrence of falls among individuals during their stay in particular healthcare facilities. Most often than not, these falls cause the recovery period to be prolonged and the condition of care and improvement applied for the said patients to be less effective. Theoretically, the researchers believed that when it comes to improving the recovery pattern that they intend to embrace, being able to take on a better chance on how improvements are to be considered especially for the sake of developing a better course of understanding on how the patients might respond to such options of assisted recovery, Tai Chi and other mental-directed therapy are expected to make a difference on how patients belonging to an older range of age would be able to respond to recovery procedures more effectively.

The pattern of the science of recovery that the medical procedures take into account at present does not only focus on what could be done and what could be accomplished through the use of medical applications and operations. The injection of alternative operations for recovery is seen to have a greater value that improves the overall condition by which medical recovery is infused with the proper options of growth, development and the creation of possibilities by which medical assistance is applied for the sake of determining a better sense of improving what is considered as a vital part of patient-recovery operation.

To make sure that the study would be able to focus on the central theme, the researchers made it a point that the methodology would involve a direct observation operation that would identify the role of tai chi among patients who have come off from a particular age that could be basically identified as somewhat extensive especially in the manner of applying traditional practices [assumed to be primitive in form] in partnership with new and innovative medical procedures that are determined to make recovery options more effective and more conclusive on how patients are given a better sense of what is being done for them through medical operations applied to help them recover faster from their ailments.

Why Tai Chi? The art of Tai Chi is considered to be one that improves concentration, balance and mental stability. Individuals who practice such exercise regularly are expected to increase their level of concentration and focus. This Chinese exercise is seen to have affected many practitioners especially on the way they handle pressured situations as part of their daily activities with full control and calmness. What then could Tai Chi do for the sake of improving the condition of the patients? This is what has been explored through the study that yielded remarkable results.

Critique of the Central Theme

Among the most important aspects of the study that needs to be given attention to is the fact that the process of observation is dedicated towards addressing the recovery needs of patients belonging to the older age-range. It has been observed through statistical record that frailty comes with age, and individuals coming from the older-range of age are expected to be more prone to such occurrences especially when they are admitted in hospitals and other healthcare facilities and they tend to do something within the aid of a healthcare practitioner around them. Irritable and impatient as they are, it has been observed among older patients that recovery period scheduled to intensify the way they improve their health status is often affected by the fact that they are a little been unconscious of how they handle themselves, especially in manners by which they tend to consider their situation to be less critical as it really seems.

Nurses, beyond understanding the situation and the attitude of these specific patients, need to make sure that they are able to expand all possibilities to assist older patients in their quest towards recovering faster from an ailment. Giving full attention to the needs of the patients is good but is usually not enough. Helping the patients grow a self-motivated culture that would help them focus themselves on holistic recovery is one aspect of development that is expected to be embraced and understood fully by the patients. Tai Chi, the ancient Chinese practice, increases concentration and improves positive perception among individuals. This is where good control of one’s self comes into full account. In the study, it has been observed that Tai Chi practitioners have an increased possibility of improving and recovering faster from their ailment compared to those who simply stay in bed.

This central theme of the study is indeed timely. With the many options and alternatives to medical recovery being researched upon today, Tai Chi seems to be an uncanny option, but somehow, through observation and research, this study supports the idea that holistic transformation is necessary especially for those who are aiming to make a determinable change on how older individuals aiming to regain strength are expected to make a distinct change of attitude towards their condition and their process of recovery accordingly. This fact makes the study more effective and reflective of the idea that alternative health operations help well in reducing falls among older patients; thus making it a feasible source of information that would best identify well with the consideration over complete and faster period of recovery among patients.

Critique of Research Methodology

The methodology embraced by the researchers of this study is conducive of the idea that there is nothing more effective and directive than observation-based research. Once the observation is made, particular points of analysis could already be drawn from the situation. In this case, individuals who were admitted in hospitals and other local healthcare facilities in Melbourne, Australia have been put under observation. The age range of the participants fall under 70 to 75 years old; and are considered to have been admitted in the said facilities for at least a week or so. The full period of recovery of the patients considered are assumed to take place in the hospital or the healthcare facilities where they are enrolled in. Noticeably, the study, which was run in a month, made it possible to observe individuals fully and make a note on how regular tai chi exercise do not only improve the point of recovery that the patients undergo, but also alter their behavior thus making it more possible for them to embrace a new way of distinguishing a better pattern of health-dedicated improvement that basically allows them to be more effective in mandating how they acquire better medical support from the institutions taking care of their medical needs. The reduction of fall injuries among tai chi practitioners was rather remarkable.

This condition insists on the fact that the study was effective enough, especially in attaining the goal it has been founded upon, to find out a new and alternative process of improving points of recovery among old-aged patients. It is assumed that applying the developmental options and suggestions presented in the research would not only make nursing operations more effective, but would also improve the ways by which nursing procedures itself would be more determined in making sure that individuals coming from many different backgrounds would have a definite insistence on how they themselves would be able to improve their perception over health diagnosis and procedural applications made to fully equip patients themselves with the right attitude towards recovery.

Overall Remarks

The research observed and analyzed herein is indeed timely and effective in making a mark on how modern medicine takes on a definite turn on how modern medicine, infused by an ancient practice and exercise could fully make a difference, especially in making a mark on how older individuals are to be assisted in the manner by which they recover from an ailment that they are supposed to be cured from. The reduction of falls among such patients make a definite insistence on the effectiveness of Tai Chi in improving concentration, mental and physical balance as well as a distinct sense of development on how these patients embrace a new sense of positive perception and outlook in life; one that helps well in making recovery periods more distinctively directive.

Most likely, through the application of this concept-based research, nurses are to be equipped well with the knowledge they need in order to make a definite mark on how improved science and traditional practices would best fit together to create a new sense of medical assistance that the patients would need to take into account. Most often than not, it is through this option of thinking that better recovery options come from; thus making it easier for the target patients to survive medical operations accordingly.
