Introduction
Benard Burnes works at the University of Manchester as professor of the organizational change. In addition, he is head of the organizational psychology in the same school. Notably, professor Burnes is one of the organizational changes among the international authority leaders. Further, professor Burnes holds a BA (horns) in social history and economic, a PhD in organizational psychology and he is also a professional engineer. In precision, the professor has not only published professional journals but also the academic publications. Besides, he is also well known in his achievements as being the editor of the book understanding organizational change as well as being associate editor of the journal on change management.
Professionally, in his book concerning greater ethical clarity, professor clearly addresses the element of change in the ethics leadership underpinning. Thus, the book examines change and development in leadership and their implications over the past three decades. To be precise the article focuses on the individual egoistic, utilitarian consequentialism as well as the sequentialism. Here, the author’s point of view is manifested in his individual perspective on ethics. More so, he argues that all approaches to change and leadership style form the basics set of values. However, these set of values are evident in the manner that they support ethical outcome on a different level. Further, he explains that those who opt to adopt a particular approach to change and leadership in order to attain beneficial and sustainable change must have greater clarity of ethics. Therefore, those who are promoting leadership and change must have greater ethical clarity on the championing approaches.
Ethics and change
Apparently my point of view critics’ the fact that professor argues that values of the democratic-humanities guides both the actions and process of change to those who lead change. On contrary, I criticize this fact since the change is caused mostly by the external milieu factors. Precisely, both ethics and change are propelled with environmental factor that is, for instance, ancient ethics are not the same as the current ethics due to influence of environment. Secondly, ethical clarity does not necessary initiate change. Thus, the change comes about with the social nature of each individual. Besides, as per the article it illustrates that lack of clarity regarding ethical values that underpin change and leadership, this is a pertinent factor but again under-researched. Since there is no clear, evident that illustrates the above phenomena. According to the literature in the article on the emergent power of change, instead ‘of its underlying values to support ethical outcomes it did undermine the same ethical outcomes. Further, another aspect that professor is addressing in the article is to demonstrate that there is need for greater clarity of the ethics in approaches of change and leadership evaluation. On contrary, some unethical practices are clear ion the context for instance, the child labour.
Summary
In the summary, the article illustrates three factors; it shows the leadership and change are linked inextricably and to receive the outcome beneficiary is linked with the underlying ethical values. Another issue is that the article notes that some change on ethical is as the result of the approach change. Finally, the article demonstrates the need for greater ethical clarity in approaching change and leadership, but unfortunately the above phenomena is not clear. Once again, I admit that some researches were not done exhaustively and again, the clarity on the greater ethical clarity is not well analyzed.
