‘The Deluge’ – Francis Danby, Book Review Example

Artists have used paintings and art to show the emotional changes that happen throughout a person’s life. These changes show the pain and happiness that people experience as they go through life. In his painting “The Deluge,” Francis Danby shows the story from the New Testament about how God punished sinful people by sending a flood that killed everyone except Noah and the animals in the ark. This art shows the connection between nature, God, and justice. It shows how God uses nature to keep people in line with the Ten Commandments by punishing them when they stray from the “holy way.” (Jonathan, 2012) Because God sent the Deluge to punish people for being bad, it is like a shipwreck as punishment in the Bible. God always drowns the person who is to blame. Genesis shows how the Lord helps those who are good and how he uses nature to punish those who break the law. Since the Middle Ages, Christians have considered Noah’s ark a symbol of the church (Jonathan, 2012). Interpreters say that God used references to joining the Church of Christ as an example of how to be saved. Evil forces attack the Church of Christ from the outside, but God saves it and uses it to bring people to a new life. In the 1800s, many people questioned the justice of God, which changed the traditional meanings of ark and Deluge. The Deluge is a unique picture of God’s anger, so it needs a specialized view of Christianity to understand it. The Deluge is an unquestionably biblical event that became a symbol of post-Christian subversions in the 19th century.

In short, Francis Danby took “The Flood,” literally and symbolically, based on his religious beliefs. He thought that even though God was good, the fact that there was a bad storm and flood showed that God was mad at people (Jonathan, 2012). The water did not rise enough during the flood to cover Noah’s ark. This shows that God rewards those who do what He says. Everyone on Earth died because of the flood.
