The Effect of Handbag Advertising on Women’s Choice, Case Study Example

Pages: 2

Words: 509

Case Study

The substantive variable in this study is the advertisement, this does not dependent on any other variable. Actually, the advertising of the hand bags makes other variables like the choice of the hand bag to vary among the ladies. The advertisement is independent and usually it is the one which determines the results of the study hence independent variable.

Another additional independent variable which is methodological which is planned is treatment. The treatment of the handbags also determines the choice of the hand bag that a woman may pick. However, this does not influence a lot like in the case of advertising which is the main independent variable.

The dependent variable in this study is choice. Choice among the ladies is depending on the factors like the advertisement and treatment of the bag. The selection of the bag will depend on the other factors, this is a clear indication that the selection must depend on another independent variable.

The research design being designed in this experiment is experimental research. In this case, there are control or comparison group. In this experiment, the subjects are assigned randomly to the groups that have been selected. The treatment is as well assigned randomly to the groups. This makes this type of experiment to qualify to be experimental research. The diagram of this research design is R-X2 -X1-O where  R is random assignment, X2 is control group while -X1 is treatment offered to the group and the O is observations made.

One major internal validity threat is maturation; this usually makes people to change naturally over time hence causing a difference in the results of the experiment. Some of the ladies may change their mind with time hence causing a major difference. Selection is also another internal validity which may vary the experiment. Selection may result to biasness hence leading to inadequate sampling method in the selection of the hand bags.

The third null hypothesis in this study is that the treatment of the hand bags will not result to the choice of the hand bags. This can be rejected if the experiment shows that the treatment of the hand bags really affects the choice of the hand bags.

The team analyzing this data will look at the number of ladies who will be influenced by the advertisement. The team will compare the number of ladies who will pick the hand bags advertised. This number will be compared with the number of hand bags selected by those who were not shown the advertisement. This will give a good comparison that will clearly show whether the advertisement has effects on the choice.  The number of untreated hand bags selected will also be compared with the number of untreated hand bags that will be picked by ladies. This also will assist in analyzing whether the treatment has any effects on the choice or selection of the hand bags. The treatment of the hand bags may change the choice of the hand bags by the ladies; it may also have no effect on the choice of the hand bags by the ladies.
