Reaction Paper

Law refers to a set of principles that are used in enforcing values of a society or an organization. As a requirement, individuals’ acts should conform to the set laws. Laws have punishment terms that results where individuals fail to observe the law’s principles (Atlas et al., 2011).

Laws are distinctively categorized. Civil law governs the disputes that occur where individuals and governments’ branches challenge concerning absolute values.

The public law refers to the set principle that provides guidance on values of property ownership, use and protection.

Administrative law is commonly used by agencies that are concerned with formulating and administering rules that relate to the general governmental requirements. Licensing, for instance, is a good example of this type of law (Atlas et al., 2011).

Federalism refers to a governing process where a territorial area is governed by more than one governmental level. For instance, US’ states are regulated by state governments as well as federal governments that govern the whole country.

The government is categorized into three types. The executive arm deals with carrying out laws. The legislative part deals with making laws (Atlas et al., 2011). The judicial part deals with evaluating the requirements and ensuring that these laws are observed.

The categorization of the government in three parts enhances the formulation and application of laws across a broad spectrum.

The supreme and the trial courts are examples of US’ court system. The Supreme Court level deals with cases that have been appealed to the lower courts. The trial courts are of the essence where cases are presided over for the first time (Atlas et al., 2011).

While presiding over court cases, judges are required to maintain neutrality concerning the cases. The judges’ role is to read offenses and penalize individuals based on the evidence availed while the cases are presided over.

Pleading refers to a call made by someone to be forgiven or be given a lenient punishment by a judge.Parties refer to individuals that are involved in disputes within the court framework. Judgment refers to a court decision that results in acquittal or penalization of charges. The settlement is an agreement between parties involved in a feud (Atlas et al., 2011).

Alternate dispute resolution is an arrangement where individual seek to acquire solution to disputes outside the courts’ jurisdiction (Atlas et al., 2011). The arrangements used where individuals involved are families. It additionally used where minor disputes are involved.
