Pages: 2

Words: 607

Essay

Introduction

The American political system is one of the most advanced in the world. Talk of the legislative assembly, democracy space, the United States among other things it is undoubtedly superior. The USA prides itself to be one of the most advanced and mature political systems of the world. Except for the American civil war of the 1960s, the USA has never again experienced any major war. This is unlike many other political systems of the world. Perhaps this is the reason why many nations are either directly copying the US system or indirectly being influenced by it. This is the major content of this article.

Influence of American political system for the world

Many reasons have been advanced as to why the American political system remains one of the most influential in the world. The top most reason is the mature democracy that the US prides of. There is no doubt that the US democracy is very mature. Perhaps this explains why it has never had any major political turmoil like the ones that have been experienced elsewhere. This also explains why the US has remained in the fore front in the fight against dictatorial regimes like those ones in Iraq and Afghanistan. Secondly America is the World’s super power; hence it can easily influence its policies on the rest of the world especially in developing countries. This can be seen on America’s close supervision of policies of African countries especially those that receive foreign aid from America. Nations that are less developed tend to think that imitating a super power’s methodologies they will also be successful. Whether this is true or not, remains debatable.

Another possible reason why Americas’ political system is very influential world over is the fact that it has one of the best and modern constitutions that respects and defends the rights of its citizens. This coupled with the political stability being experienced in the country undoubtedly makes America a model for many states of the world. There is a general feeling that true democracy and good leadership are grounded in a good constitution like the one of the US. Additionally economic power that the US enjoys also makes it very influential to the rest of the world. This comes from its rich history, natural resources, highly skilled manpower, and larger trading blocks. This has made her very successful economically thus it becomes easier to influence other nations. For instance the US dollar is the world’s leading standard currency, thus it gives her an upper hand in most of the economic decisions affecting the world.

Last but not least the influence that America has to the rest of the world can be attributed to her close relationship with the UN and her military prowess. UN being the world’s political watch dog has a lot to say in as far as troubled political systems of the world are concerned. Thus if America is close to her, there is a possibility of America imposing her policies through the United Nations. This is especially made worse considering the fact that US enjoys veto power in the UN assembly!

Conclusion

America is and will be a very influential force to the rest of the world for along time. It has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that it has a lot of say even in internal developments of many countries of the world. Thus it will be good if she used this advantage to impose sound policies to the countries of the world experiencing trouble. It will also be much better if she used her position wisely to bring sound policies that will translate to political stability, economic prosperity and lasting peace world over.
