Webinar Critique

In this Webinar critique an analysis of the structure, content presentation and marketing strategies employed during this delivery will be evaluated from a health care professional perspective. Precisely, this Webinar explaining, the Power of Clinical Grade Tablets for Healthcare was conducted by Greg Davison who is the senior marketing manager of Surface Microsoft Corporation. As such, from the onset the viewing audience psychologically is programed into an activity, which ultimately leads towards initiating the purchasing of a product. From a health care professional paradigm my first impression of this structure is whether to have an open mid towards the content or become just subjective since the obvious goal is to sell a product.

However, it contained a highly professional concept as it related to computer technology science. Consequently, the webinar opened by asking three significant questions arousing the audience’s attention to the product, which was being offered. Next, the speakers were introduced and their relationship in the health care delivery industry was announced. They were Dr. Bill Crouse, senior director worldwide health Microsoft Corporation; Brock Morris, chief Information officer, Pediatric Associates and Seam Updegrove, Director of partner experience and innovation Seattle Children’s hospital. The caliber and professional expertise of these speakers still are dominantly linked towards promoting the product as a marketing venture, rather than a health care efficiency upgrade.

In examining the content it is quite obvious that the emphasis relates to advertising what the product will do, perhaps, in facilitating staff efficiency. However, what it will bring towards improving quality of health care outcomes is still obscure. For example, the first three questions asked in opening the discussion were, what makes a Tablet Clinical grade;why “clinical grade” is important for successful mobile healthcare deployments and how healthcare organizations have tackled this challenge? Again there are no specifics as to how this device will improve patient outcomes directly.

As the webinar continued discussions were focused on the device itself and how clinicians function could be improved. First the device was introduced as being the best for clinicians, then a consumer usage profile of 72% physicians and 85% workstation was highlighted. Still these inferences have not been linked to the ultimate goal of health care reform in America improvement is quality of health care delivery. Projections as to the expectations regarding increased usage across health care facilities over a short period of time. In this section for the first time an association between patient care and the device was attempted in the realm of 15% post launch improvement and 24% efficiency in ward management (Davidson, 2014)

In the section following this one presenter briefly mention that the device is promises performance, reliability and security maximizing caregiver productivity and ensuring the highest quality of patient care. As a marketing strategy in gaining the attention of health care professionals this care close to the end of the Webinar, but was not its theme. To enhance the marketability of this device the presenter exposed the audience to distinct features, which were promised to enable improved functionality at a twenty-first century technological level. Specific advantages were presented, but no disadvantages mentioned.

Pediatric Associates and Seattle Children’s hospital were used as supporting market strategies in promoting the device prior to a brief session wrap up. In concluding this critically Webmar analysis, it must be noted that while it was designed for health care professions/organizations the question, which is still unanswered is, how will the device usage contribute to better patient out comes directly as a health care reform initiative?
