Outline

The topic for this essay is “Does adoption have a positive or negative effect on the child?” I believe that adoption has a positive effect on the child because this will allow them to live a normal life with a family who loves him or her. My thesis topic states “Adoption should be permitted in the United States because it provides individuals with the ability to form a family, meeting the needs of both the child and the adults that wish to accept the child into their home”. The peer reviewed source for this essay is entitled “Open Adoption of Infants: Adoptive Parents’ Perceptions of Advantages and Disadvantages” (Siegel et al. 15). I selected this topic because I am potentially interested in adopting a child and I would like to explore popular opinions of adoption further.

The outline is as follows:

Introduction and Claim

  • There are many individuals that are for and against adoption
  • Individuals for adoption believe that it adoption is good because it helps form families
  • Opponents of adoption believe that children adopted from foreign countries should remain in their home nations
  • Adoption should be permitted in the United States because it provides individuals with the ability to form a family, meeting the needs of both the child and the adults that wish to accept the child into their home

Background

  • There are no clear laws that regulate adoption but a clear advantage is that this action allows children with no homes or support to find what they need

Opposition

  • Opponents of adoption believe that children up for adoption in other countries are taken from their parents because this industry is profitable
  • The claim is that the adoption industry is a money making scheme

Common Grounds

  • While the adoption process makes money, there are many procedures in place to ensure that the child is protected and matched to a suitable home, regardless of country of       origin

Conclusion

  • The ability of a family to adopt a child provides more benefit than detriment, so it should be allowed and supported
