The Truth About Climate Change, Movie Review Example

Pages: 1

Words: 333

Movie Review

David Attenborough’s scintillating documentary entitled The Truth About Climate Change explores the question of what the future of the world looks like in light of recent natural calamites and phenomena that have taken place. Some of these phenomena include the heat wave of 2003, Hurricane Katrina, swarms of insects bombarding and enveloping African villages, and polar bears swimming in the melted polar ice caps in search of ice. The issue at hand is whether or not such occurrences were isolated incidences or if they portend imminent, larger global change. Attenborough ascertains that the world has been heating up at an exponential and unprecedented rate that transcends natural or typical oscillation. The question remains whether or not anthropogenic activities are to blame for these alarming patterns. Such vast changes have already been set into motion regardless of how humans around the globe react to the available information. Attenborough, however, argues that humans do retain agency in this potential environmental catastrophe and can indeed prevent any further damages or catastrophes from materializing. People across the globe must alter their lifestyles and adapt to the current climate changes take place at a macro level. Indigenous peoples such as the Inuit in Arctic are limited in their ability to hunt, while denizens residing in the Pacific islands have been forcibly uprooted from their homes because of rising sea levels, which have spawned herculean waves. Permafrost has eclipsed homes in Siberia, causing them to sink. As such, Attenborough cogently examines various scenarios that could take place in the future as a result of such profound climate changes, including the proliferation of infectious diseases, rising sea levels, and deadly insect plagues. This documentary seriously forces all world citizens to think about the consequences on their actions and how important the environment is to the quality life of flora and fauna alike. Global warming exists, and so humans must find a way to mitigate the accelerated path it has taken in recent years to prevent fatal natural calamities from transpiring.
