TINA vs. AWIP, Article Review Example

In an article entitled “Is an Alternative Globalization Possible”, Peter Evans builds on double-movement concept whereby the market seeks to regulate itself from a self-regulating environment. This article uses this approach in order to define ideological and organizational hurdles that citizens overcome in order to conquer the hegemony that dominates modern neo-liberal globalization.

Failures of neo-liberalism are highlighted and then an argument for counter-hegemonic form of globalization is advanced. This type of globalization is defined as one that is based on political control in order for human capabilities to be made into priority areas.

Political implications have also been highlighted in another paper whereby Panizza (2005) argues that left-wing political power holders have brought about more far-reaching globalization implications then right-wing political players. According to Panizza, the supporters of left-wing politicians count on the promise of alternative economic practices that protect the domestic in an increasingly polarized international market. Panizza expresses fears that old certainties might cause loss of intellectual confidence especially in third world countries.

In a different article, Weyland (2004) is of the opinion that many costly economic constraints are often brought about by significant deviations from entrenched policies. Despite dismal performance, new development strategies have gained many supporters in countries such as Argentina, Venezuela and Brazil. The same case applies to socialist and neoliberal urban policy regimes that are dominant in the Latin America (Schrank & Goldfrank, 2009).
