To the Director of Nursing, Personal Statement Example

Personal Statement

In the following, I would like to briefly apprise the Director of Nurses of a recent situation that has been greatly disturbing to me, and which I believe calls for her attention.  On Monday, Sept. 17th, I was engaged in my 3 – 11 p.m. shift, as usual. When the incoming nurse arrived for her 11 p.m. shift, she received from me a complete report as to the day’s concerns.  More specifically, I carefully made it clear in the report that a patient due to get a blood transfusion the following morning did not require further assistance from her in that regard; the paperwork was done, blood had been drawn for the cross type and match, and the doctor concerned was fully aware of the next day’s procedure.  I would emphasize that, again, this full report was given to the nurse on duty before I left for the evening.  I since discovered that this nurse then proceeded to call the hospital where the transfusion was to take place, unnecessarily asking them about the information I had already completely provided.  She also called the doctor to inquire along the same lines, and he was less than pleased about being disturbed in the night for no reason.  Furthermore, this nurse then gave a very different version of my report to the nurse arriving that morning, as I have cause to believe she also made it clear that she did not “trust my report.”

The important factors of unprofessional behavior resulting in inconvenience to the hospitals, the physician, and the patient aside, I am equally dismayed by the circumstance of my abilities and word being doubted.  On one level, nurses must rely and trust one another, in order to best care for patients; on another, her actions were completely irrational, and certainly not motivated by any legitimate cause.  I sincerely feel that there are issues with this nurse that represent potentially more serious problems.  She is often hostile and suspicious, she is frequently and overtly disrespectful to myself and other nurses, and she engages in bizarre behaviors, such as sitting on the floor while counting narcotics.  While I adamantly believe I am owed a written apology for so flagrant an unjust accusation made about my work, and for her grossly unprofessional ignoring of the same,  I am more concerned as to what may occur in the future, and I strongly feel that this entire matter warrants attention from the Director of Nurses.  I ask as well that the Director believe I would not make these assertions, were the circumstances described in any way not absolutely accurate.
