UC College Admissions, Personal Statement Example

It is an exceptional privilege to apply for and beaccepted into a renowned school as University of Cincinnati (UC). For me it is an awesome experience being the first in my family to have attended a University. My Mexican heritage propelled  meinto making this decision of applying to attend college. Essentially, my mother is a first generation American. Her parents moved to this county in 1962 from Mexico as a humble simple family. The purpose they always communicated to me for migrating was an effort to give their offspring a better future.

My mother never had many educational opportunities because her parents, even though they would have liked to see her take this vital step, articulation of thedesire waslimited by language differences. Mexicans speak Spanish and Americans English.  This somewhat inhibited progress towards achieving the goal. My mother always expressed the desire to attend college. Sadly, it never happened. At the time when they came to America opportunities to learn and become proficient in English was not as accessible as it is today. Even up to now my grandparents speak only Spanish. My brother and I assist them in communicating in English.

Besides, my mother was a single parent working to support my brother and me. My grandmother would baby-sit us when mother went to work. Incidentally, at the age of early age of 2 years old my parents were divorced. At the time my brother was 5 years old. While my mom did not attend college deep within, she always looked forward to the day when her children would go. This entire family would be extremely delighted to see me attending college.

We learnt Spanish from our grandparents who inspired us in becoming fluent in English to facilitate bilingual communication. One other person besides my mother and grandparents that ought to be thanked for his exceptional inspiration, is my stepfather. He would always encourage my brother and me to attend college.

Therefore, this privilege  of going to college is not just wonderful for me, but it hopes to benefit my  entire family immensely. The question then might be, in what ways would it be useful for my family? First, for generations after mine it would become history for my offspring and my brother’s in knowing that this has eventually been achieved in the family. The second benefitwould be setting a precedence for all my children and grandchildren.  Thirdly, they wouldbe born knowing that after graduating high school, going to college is the next expectation. Finally, they would no longer be timid in telling themselves that it is not achievable within their specific culture or family tradition.

My aim is to excel academically and going to college is a pathway towards achieving this goal. The next obvious question that might be asked,is why applying to attend University of Cincinnati (UC)? What are my expectations of this school? From reading it was communicated to prospective students that this University promises students a comprehensive educational package. When a student graduates from this college he/she does not only receive a career, but is equipped with skills to master challenges in the world. Besides, it a college of excellence. The annual enrollment exceeds 43,000 students and the curriculum is very attractive for persons wanting to pursue a unique academic discipline as mine.
