Understanding How the Brain Works, Article Review Example

Article Review

When the function of the brain is given regard, it is most often than not common for humans to define it as a process of constant thinking; a process that is essential in human living. While this is true, there are different sides of consideration that scientists and physicians share when it comes to actually understanding how the brain works. Relatively, in the article written by Kat McGowan entitled Brainsong, she tries to identify how Rodolfo Llinas tries to present the brain as an evolving matter; a systematic form of creation that adapts to the environment around it. To better define this process, Llinas examines the actual function of neurons. These small elements of the brain serving as connective wires are defined by Llinas as a cord of continuance that function in rhythm that makes it possible for a human to react rationally to the condition of the environment that exists around him.

On the other end, the brain is further defined by Michael Gazzaniga in his written article entitled the Brain Split as a form of functioning biological machine that has two separate conditions of work. One is the actual rational process of decision making and one is dedicated to instinctive completion of decisions. In this article, Gazzaniga makes an implicative description on how the practical division of the brain creates a more reasonable way of decision making for humans depending on the situation that they are currently it. For instance, if a human individual is faced with an immediate situation requiring immediate solution then instinct works into place. On the other hand, if the decision conveys more complex issues that might involve the future, the brain sets down and functions in a way that it weighs consequences which usually takes more time than instinctive response.

In a way, these two articles tend to connive on the idea that the human brain adapts to the situation. Apart from any super computer’s capability to function properly under command, the brain is an evidently separate entity that commands the body and not the other way around. Humans who are able to understand this matter are best able to consider the fact that their brains function considerably based on the pressing need at the current time and rational basis that comes from experience and rational decoding of situations.
