University of Bridgeport, Personal Statement Example

My uncles and aunts still tell me how I was one of the most inquisitive children they have ever met. Fortunately, my parents understood the importance of curiosity and exploration, thus, they would give me old electronic items such as radio, watch, and even laptop to open and explore their inside mechanism. I still remember being amazed every time I would unscrew an item and find quite a complex world hiding underneath the body. Thus, it is not surprising I developed an early interest in engineering because the potential for creativity is almost unlimited. I consider myself to be quite fortunate for living in these times in which the pace of innovation is unprecedented in history. The invention of new building materials has only expanded the opportunities for engineering professionals. This is why I have decided to pursue my college degree in electrical engineering so that I have a strong foundation for a career at a leading multinational technology company such as Apple and Samsung.

When I started my college career at University of New Haven, I chose Systems Engineering as my major. But the courses I took during the early semesters made it apparent Systems Engineering is not a great fit to my interests and strengths. Fortunately, these courses also helped me realized my true interest lies in Electrical Engineering, hence, my decision to change my college major.

College education is one of the most important investments we make in our future. While University of New Haven has a great Electrical Engineering Program, the classes are often quite big which negatively affects the overall learning experience. As I explored other options, I found University of Bridgeport to be the best fit to my academic goals and interests. The students learn under a world-class faculty and small class sizes ensure each student gets individual attention from the instructor and class discussions are also more engaging.

I look forward to pursuing my college education in Electrical Engineering at University of Bridgeport and hope my learning at the university will provide me with a strong foundation for a bright career at a leading multinational technology company such as Apple, Samsung, or GE.
